Whitewater Rafting - Gunnison River

Ouray Colorado Whitewater Rafting, Kayaking Trips
The Gunnison River runs through Southwestern Colorado and has been voted “Wild and Scenic River” designation. Encounters with big horn sheep, eagles, river otters and mule deer are common while whitewater rafting down the Gunnison River. This exciting river offers challenging whitewater, breathtaking scenery, vertical rock walls loaded with geology and the infamous Gunnison River Gorge.

Within the 14 mile stretch of the Gunnison River Gorge, the river drops 210+ feet, making it an exhilarating experience. The Gunnison River Gorge is known more for its beauty, seclusion and award winning trout fishing and is located just downstream from the newly formed Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. It also receives protection as a National Conservation area.

There are a host of whitewater rafting companies and outfitters that can take you down this magnificent river. Some offer slower-paced flat water day trips, longer 1-3 day trips including class II all the way up to class IV rapids, or for the full adventure seeker, a one mile hike down into the Black Canyon before beginning your whitewater excursion. Whatever river experience that you are after, the various outfitters can suit your tastes.
