Whitewater Rafting - Dolores River

The Dolores River begins at the base of the San Juan Mountains approximately 25 miles North of Cortez, Colorado. The Dolores River shoots through various slickrock canyons and meanders across Paradox Valley and Mesa Canyon.

Then near the town of Gateway, Colorado the Dolores River plunges into Gateway Canyon where the most thrilling and exciting whitewater rapids are located. Finally, 30 miles beyond Gateway, the Dolores joins up with the mighty Colorado River. Abundant waterfowl and wildlife, fascinating geology, intriguing side creeks, visible Indian ruins and remnants of a “hanging flume,” mark this beautiful river trip.

Whether you plan an enjoyable family trip of rafting and scenery, or an extensive whitewater multiday adventure, the Dolores River outfitters have got your plans covered. In fact, by combining some of the canyons of which the river runs through, you could possibly take one of the longest rafting trips offered in the West.

The unique combination of solitude, wildlife, scenery, and Indian ruins make the Dolores River a must see during your Four Corners vacation.
